Can it open a PDF whose password I don't know?

No. PDFya does not guess or crack passwords: you need to know it.

Is it legal to remove the password?

Yes, when the PDF is yours or you have permission to do so. Do not use the tool on other people's documents.

What happens to my files?

They are sent encrypted, processed and discarded when the job is done. PDFya does not store or review them.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no added watermark. There is a limit of 20 MB per file and 30 operations per hour.
